Dr. Alicia Torres is a board-certified veterinary epidemiologist and public‐health specialist with a passion for keeping both pets and people safe. After earning her B.S. in Microbiology at the University of Florida, she completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Veterinary Science in Infectious Disease at North Carolina State University. As an Epidemiologist with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Dr. Torres designs and oversees disease‐surveillance programs, investigates zoonotic outbreaks, and crafts biosecurity guidelines to protect our communities. A USDA-accredited veterinarian and AAEP-certified in Equine Biosecurity, she brings rigorous scientific training to every aspect of her work—from tracing the source of an outbreak to educating pet owners on preventive care. Outside the lab, Dr. Torres is an avid kayaker and community educator. She regularly speaks at public‐health workshops and runs “Paws & Prevention” seminars, helping dog lovers understand how simple steps—like proper vaccination schedules and hygiene practices—can stop diseases before they start. Her mission: empower every pet parent with the knowledge they need to keep their furry family members healthy and happy.
