Dr. Brian Chen is a devoted exotic-and-wildlife medicine veterinarian with over a decade of hands-on experience caring for the creatures that most clinics can’t. After earning his B.A. in Zoology from the University of Oregon, he completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University, where he fell in love with treating birds, reptiles, small mammals, and other non-traditional patients. Today, Dr. Chen serves as Senior Veterinarian at the Rocky Mountain Exotic Animal Clinic in Denver, CO. He’s a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator and an ACLAM-accredited Laboratory Animal Specialist, which means he’s equally at home stabilizing a hurt hawk, diagnosing a sick bearded dragon, or advising wildlife centers on best practices. When he’s not in the exam room, you’ll find Dr. Chen leading birdwatching excursions, capturing wildlife with his camera, or serving on the board of the Colorado Herpetological Society. He’s passionate about sharing his knowledge through community workshops—whether it’s teaching folks how to safely handle a backyard finding or guiding rescue volunteers in proper rehabilitation techniques. Above all, Dr. Chen believes every animal, no matter how “exotic,” deserves compassionate, evidence-based care.
